Daughter of Lahad Datu police chief dies after accidentally shooting herself

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama/Borneo Post) – The 14-year-old daughter of Lahad Datu police chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail was found dead in a pool of blood in a room at her home in Taman Tabanak, Lahad Datu on Tuesday evening.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed the incident and said that further investigations are being carried out.

“The police are still investigating how the incident could have occurred. The victim’s 16-year-old sister found her lying in the room after returning from school.

“The victim’s father was in Kinabatangan during the incident to handle relocation matters as he was recently promoted (to Lahad Datu),” he said.

Dzulbaharin Ismail was appointed Lahad Datu police chief on April 1.

According to the Borneo Post, the victim’s 16-year-old sister was the only witness who found the 14-year-old victim covered in blood inside a room of the house at around 12.42pm on Tuesday.

“Police are still investigating how the incident could have happened. The victim’s sister was the only person who found the deceased lying in the room after returning from school.

“At the time of the incident, the victim’s father was in Kinabatangan, in the process of moving house as he had just been promoted,” Tan Sri Razarudin said.

Razarudin said a postmortem would be carried out at 9am Wednesday and police are currently gathering all witnesses to record their statement.

“The public is advised not to make any speculations such as the victim shot herself or the like until the investigation has been completed,” he said.
